June 28, 2026, marks the sixth birthday of Giant Panda Yuan Bao. However, according to recent observations by her keepers, Yuan Bao has gradually entered a pseudopregnancy, following Yuan Yuan and Yuan Zai into this stage. Eating less, moving less, and sleeping more are typical behavioral characteristics of pseudopregnancy in giant pandas. Therefore, when the zoo reopens on July 2, visitors are kindly asked to keep their voices down and be especially considerate when visiting the Giant Panda House.

Although Yuan Bao has entered her pseudopregnancy, the keepers still put their creativity and imagination to work on her birthday (June 28) by designing a special behavioral enrichment environment to encourage her to eat more and explore. This year's birthday enrichment theme was "Space Adventure." Throughout the exhibit, bamboo, crushed ice, apples, sugarcane, kiwifruit, grapes, cherry tomatoes, pineapples, carrots, and corn were creatively combined with enrichment items to create an outer-space setting. The exhibit included bucket rockets, buoy planets, a burlap "Yoga Planet," and mysterious little aliens scattered throughout. At the center stood an Earth-shaped ice sculpture topped with a little space bear holding a flag bearing the number "6." As Yuan Bao wandered through the habitat, she looked just like a "space panda," exploring the delicious and playful enrichment items prepared for her. Although Taipei Zoo remains closed for annual maintenance today, the zoo has received many birthday wishes for Yuan Bao and looks forward to welcoming everyone back when the zoo reopens on July 2.

During the temporary closure, the Giant Panda House is also renovating the indoor exhibit flooring and the walls of the outdoor exhibit to provide the pandas with a cooler and more comfortable outdoor environment before autumn arrives.

During the summer holidays, Taipei Zoo will launch the animal adoption campaign. Pop-up booths will be set up in front of the elevator on the first floor of the Giant Panda House (Shin Kong Special Exhibition Hall) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on July 11, July 25, August 8, and August 22. Visitors are invited to support wildlife conservation through action. Those who make an on-site donation will receive a limited-edition Giant Panda commemorative souvenir.
