1. Introduction: The Taipei Zoo (the Zoo) is responsible for wildlife conservation education and has been continually grooming wildlife veterinary professionals. For proper management of students, individuals and groups working as interns at the Zoo, these regulations have been developed to protect the safety of the relevant people and animals.
2. The 'student' or 'individual' referred to in these Regulations means a person who is still studying at or is a graduate of a domestic or overseas veterinary school or who is a practising veterinarian. 'Group' means an internship arrangment made by a domestic or overseas veterinary school with the Zoo.
3. There are two types of internship application: Individual or Group. Domestic applications should be submitted at least 3 months before the internship starts while overseas applications should be submitted at least 6 months before the internship starts. Each internship should last at least 2 weeks (10 working days) or at least one day per week consecutively for 3 months or above.
4. Individual applications should include a completed internship application form, an internship consent letter and a recommendation letter from the veterinary school or the veterinary work unit. Group applications should include an application letter from the veterinary school, a completed application form, an internship consent letter and a recommendation letter from the veterinary school.
5. The number of interns that can be accommodated at the Veterinary Office is 4 per day but the number of interns for a Group application can be more according to the specific case and the resource deployment of the Zoo.
6. Internship applications are reviewed and approved by the Veterinary Office. If there are more applications than the available number of internship, priority will be determined based on academic qualification, time of application and other relevant qualifications/experience.
7. Interns should follow the "Taipei Zoo Veterinary Office Internship Rules" and other relevant rules of the Zoo. In the case of a breach of such rules or damage to the Zoo's reputation, the internship will be terminated with immediate effect.
8. Any other matters not covered here will be handled in accordance with other regulations and rules of the Zoo and the relevant law and regulations.
9. These regulations will be implemented after being approved by the Zoo Management Meeting. Any future amendments need to be approved by the Zoo Management Meeting before taking effect.
